We ventured from the comfortable
Drove down unfamiliar, dusty, gravel roads
Flanked by wavy trees and scrubby bushes scattered
We hiked deep into the forest
Along winding, dirt paths strewn randomly with protruding roots and jutting rocks
The unruly grass dotted with tiny, divine flowers, the laughter of God
The whole earth dappled golden underneath the canopy of softly swaying leaves
We ventured from the comfortable
To hear the roar
The first sign that what we were after was up ahead
To see water rushing and falling
To watch the swirling, churning, surging
And feel the mist on our faces and bare limbs
To stop striving and stand in awe of something bigger than ourselves
To marvel at the spectacle and power
Hidden away like treasure
But there for those who would seek it out
To be present and breathe and heal
In the open air and tangle
Of nature’s wonderland
