When falling into sin

It’s never really falling

Not an accident, per se

Not a stumble or a trip

But deliberate, a choice

Whatever it was I did or said

I did or said because I wanted to

It was my will to sin

A poor alternative to walking upright on the high road

A wallowing in muck

That gets me nowhere but dirty

So easy to get stuck

And stay swimming in the filth

Because sin can be enjoyable

Until it’s not

Until the consequences of my bad behaviour

Sting enough that I’m pressured to reform

I feel forlorn

You promise there’s a way out when I’m tempted

An exit sign, a means of quick escape

But, the problem is I have to want to take it

Do you love me even when I’m unrepentant

Or do you turn your face away

Have mercy, Lord

Have mercy
