A Gratitude Listicle

It’s Thanksgiving Weekend here in Canada and I’m feeling the urge to acknowledge my blessedness. Gratitude is one of the keys to a joy-filled life. Moments I’m thankful for:

  • The gift of every new day
  • A comfortable home, food in my belly, and bills paid
  • Good health
  • The love, camaraderie, and support of family and friends
  • Celebrations with feasting and merriment
  • Fireworks topping off fun-filled festivities
  • Binge watching Netflix and eating junk food with my children on a rainy day
  • Being held close by someone I love, especially when I’m sad enough to cry
  • Whispers in close quarters between friends
  • A friend who gets my twisted sense of humour
  • Stifling a laugh with another
  • Anything that makes me laugh so hard that I cry
  • The delight of children giggling
  • A kid’s curious questions
  • The goofy recklessness of teenagers
  • The bluntness of many seniors
  • Creativity in all its forms
  • Whimsical curls, mohawks, and long locks
  • Fashion and the inspiring, wonderful, weird ways people express themselves
  • The artistry of ink on skin
  • A painting that speaks to me enough to make me stop and study it
  • A favorite tune blasting on the car stereo in the summertime with the windows down
  • The joy of singing out, whether it sounds good or not
  • The privilege of watching a movie that cost millions of dollars to make
  • Steady, meaningful employment
  • A reliable vehicle and having places to go
  • Flying through the sky to unknown and exciting destinations
  • The sight of home after any journey
  • The warmth, comfort, and familiarity of my bed
  • Clean sheets after a soak in the tub
  • Restful, nourishing sleep
  • The rush of exertion, the forceful pumping of blood through the body, and heavy breathing
  • The feeling of exhaustion after a strenuous hike
  • Eating lunch with friends on a mountaintop, after successfully completing the long slog
  • The exhilaration that comes from dancing
  • Squishing sand between my toes and strolling along the beachimg_6355
  • The tingling caress of water against my skin while swimming
  • When the hairstylist scrubs my scalp before cutting my hair
  • A relaxing massage
  • A dreamy kiss
  • Orgasm 😀
  • A quick, cool drink straight from the tap
  • Tart, sweet lemonade on ice
  • Pizza, no descriptors needed
  • A loaded, drippy cheeseburger that I have to smush to take a bite
  • Home-made, cheesy lasagna
  • Rich, delectable chocolate melting on my tongue
  • The ooey-gooey, brown sugary goodness of freshly baked chocolate chip cookies
  • A plump, hot-from-the-oven, cinnamon bun
  • An iced, crisp sugar cookie
  • Sour, sugar-dusted, multicolored gummies that make my mouth pucker
  • Cotton candy and sticky fingers at the amusement park
  • Saltwater taffy stuck in my teeth
  • One scrumptious bite of fudge
  • The rustling of wind in the trees
  • The soothing sound of water as it trickles, flows, and roars
  • The pitter patter of rain and the fresh scent following it
  • Big, sloppy, snowflakes
  • Intricate ice patterns decorating a window
  • The golden glow of dawn and dusk
  • Dew droplets glistening on the delicate petal of a flower
  • The subtle, sweet scent of lilacs in the spring
  • The white hot sun blazing in a clear, blue sky
  • A cool breeze on a sweaty brow
  • Fluffy clouds floating dreamily
  • The sun glinting off undulating water
  • The sunlight streaming through an open window
  • The unique, painterly spectacle of every sunrise and sunset
  • Silence
  • Feelings of accomplishment
  • The resolution of a problem
  • Forgiveness and healing in relationships
  • The knowledge that the people of God are praying
  • The hope that comes from reading the Word
  • The assurance that I’m loved by God right now, as I am
  • The enduring presence of Jesus

That’s my list, it’s not in anyway comprehensive, and, no, I didn’t invent the word listicle. 😀 Feel free to make your own list in the comment section. Happy Thanksgiving!img_0712
